Liu Yueh-Ming
A director and actor in Taiwan, he used to act in dozens of independent films and shorts. He often traveled around Taiwan with his family at an early age. In adulthood, he cycled around the island by himself, he was so touched by the people and landscapes of this land. He lived in Darwin, Australia for one year, then he traveled to the countries of the South Pacific: Fiji and Kiritimati of Kiribati. By wandering alone, he gradually realized the relationships between Taiwan, the world, and his inner self.
In Ming's works, for the most part, erotic is the creative core, this topic is explored around gender issues, sexual rights, sexual/romantic orientation, religious healing, and the disadvantaged. Ritual expression and indie craft are common in his shorts. Come to Tonight is about the feelings and process of a disabled being sexually serviced; Huajiang Girls focuses on a female student seeing her own inner gender. His latest short: Dawaimaha, which allows us to peek at the erotic fantasy of a mysterious woman by expressing the representation of local history from Taiwan, is a magical realist film with ridiculous and warm.
His first short film Jam won the Grand Prize of Signes de Nuit International Film Festival and the Special Jury Prize of Houston International Film Festival. Other shorts were selected for the best narrative film of the Golden Harvest Award and in the competition of the South Taiwan Film Festival. His first feature screenplay A Thousand Days of Millennials was selected for the Excellent Screenplay Award in Taiwan; his first TV series screenplay Mystery of The Water Grass was selected for the TV Screenwriting Award.
